At their Monday, May 11 meeting Pincher Creek's Town Council unanimously agreed to a motion put forward by Councillor Roy Smyth to nominate Bob Westrop for the Diamond Jubilee Medal. "He is a tremendous volunteer, and has been for years," said Smyth in his motion. "I would like to have his name put forward."

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal will be awarded to 60,000 deserving Canadians for significant contributions and achievements to their communities by the Chancellery of Honours, which is directly affiliated with the Governor General of Canada's office. The medal was created to mark the ongoing 2012 celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada.

Bob Westrop has been a significant participant in many of the events in the Pincher Creek area over the years, often with microphone in hand performing as the Master of Ceremonies at such events as the annual parade, at Heritage Acres, and at fundraisers, rodeos, charity events, auctions, awards ceremonies, and a host of other community-minded endeavours. His contributions to the fabric of life in the Pincher Creek area are truly notable and worthy of recognition.
