Although stormy skies threatened the ceremonies and fun at Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village (KBPV) on Canada Day, the weather ultimately cooperated throughout the day, keeping it cool and dry for the 500 people who came to celebrate.

Mayor Ernie Olsen was the first to address the crowd during the official ceremony.  He talked about Canada Day, the Town and residents of the area, and KBPV, mentioning all the work that is being done at the facility.  MD of Pincher Creek Deputy Reeve Terry Yagos  then addressed those assembled with a lesson in history and a stirring rendition of life in 1812, the theme of the day.  KBPV Curator Farley Wuth also made a historical speech touching on the factors that played key roles in the War of 1812.

During the speeches, the Maddog Cannoneers arrived on the parade area and stood at attention along with Fort Mcleod Cadet Corp #2309 as the Canadian flag was raised by two young cadets.  March-Out by the cadets signaled the end of the formal ceremonies of the day, and then the fun began.

Two bouncy tents had children jumping for joy, and the Maddog Cannoneers gave several demonstrations throughout the day as well as educating the public about historic firearms and armaments. Jack Kunst was also dressed in period clothes, representing the Rocky Mountain Rangers. To go to the firearms demonstrations, one passed by the antique car exhibit, displayed by Ray Degan and other private collectors.

People explored the historic buildings on the KBPV site, including the Cyr house that was opened that day for the first time to the public.  Ice cream was sold on the veranda by Mrs. Colleen Cyr, the President of the Pincher Creek and District Historical Society, and she explained the new 1920s exhibit that was housed within the building.

Music played in the main courtyard while people ate lunch and birthday cake served up by volunteers. Adults relaxed as children ran, played, made ropes and did crafts.  Overall it was a fun, interesting and educational day.
