Cardston area fatal single vehicle rollover
At approximately 4:45 today, July 2, Cardston RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover near the St. Mary dam area. A 40 year old male from Fort Macleod, believed to be the driver, was pronounced dead on the scene. 4 passengers were transported to hospital in Lethbridge. One of them suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by STARS to hospital in Calgary.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factor in this collision. The incident remains under investigation by Cardston RCMP with the assistance of the RCMP collision analyst.
Update: The driver killed in the collision near the St. Mary Dam site, has been identified as 40 year old Joseph Ironshirt from fort Macleod. His passengers included a 38 year old male, a 24 year old female, a 22 year old female, and a 5 year old boy, all from Fort Macleod. All 4 passengers were transported to hospital, however, there is no update available on their status.
