| A still from "The Coolest Cop Ever" |
Local RCMP Constable Douglas Sokoloski has been dubbed "The Coolest Cop Ever" by campers who thought they were in trouble when he pulled up to their rock 'n roll encampment. "We all assumed that we were in trouble, but really he just wanted to shred on the guitar and play the drums a bit. What a nice fella," says the individual posting it in the video description. At last count the video had more than 210,000 views, and is still rapidly climbing. Kudos to our Top of the Pops Cop with the chops.
Here then, a video we dearly wished we had taken of the shredding officer on guitar and drums:
Constable Sokoloski, you have an open invitation to jam with the Voice band anytime. We can even loan you a drumkit.
This is cool! Thanks... will share.
ReplyDeleteWhat an Excellent thing for the RCMP , with all the bad its nice to see the good to . This is all over Canadian news also in the US . Nice to see an Officer of the Law Can also be a normal person . I really enjoyed his comment of I cant wait until I retire .
ReplyDeleteThe people who were trying to camp and had to call the cops due to the noise must have been impressed. If you call them out when someone is robbing your neighbors, does he take a cut?
ReplyDeleteReally thats your comment! you cant see how awesome that is that a cop actually took the time not to be an asshole!
DeleteGet a grip! Its nice to see a cop just being a normal guy!
How do you even know somebody put in a complaint? looks like these guys are out camping somewhere where they probably arent bothering other people! cop was probably just cruising around keeping an eye on things, when he came accross theses guys!
like YOU I'm guessing!
Unless you have some information we don't have, there has been no indication that he was responding to a noise complaint.
ReplyDeleteWhy else was her there? In the woods? Alone?
DeleteHe was there because he was on patrol duty and went to check on the campground. Police do that, you know, make rounds of their detachement area. If I was a camper in the woods, I would appreciate the occassional police check in.
DeleteIts not a campground, its the random camping area in the forest reserve, and go figure, the RCMP and other agencies patrol these areas. Way to go Doug.
DeleteIn full uniform...armed...bullet proof vest...Why would he have been there?
ReplyDeleteI can imagine a lot of reasons, including checking out what was going on. Last I checked paying music isn't always a crime. I see no evidence he was alone, and speculating isn't what I do.

Perhaps an investigation before publishing would have rendered a more balanced article?
DeleteOr it could just be a quick blip of something that happened that doesn't require a crack team of investigative reporters to track down every one of your unsubstantiated suspicions. If you have some pertinent information you'd like us to consider, email pinchercreekvoice@gmail.com. If not, I haven't much else to say on the matter.

The PR alone has already done wonders. Outshines all the bad police officers by a long shot. Maybe some of your readers, Chris should read the comments on U Tube as well. Makes me proud to call him one of ours. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!
ReplyDeleteAlso they don't have to be going to a complaint to pay a visit to a camp ground in their jurisdiction.
ReplyDeleteThat's my take on it too, Wayne. Having met the man in many situations both tough and lighthearted, my honest impression has been that this is truly one of the good guys, and consistently so.

Everybody has their own definition of journalism.
ReplyDeleteJudging from other, more major media in the Province, we all share an eye for a good (albeit brief) story.
ReplyDeleteHowever, your censure is noted.
Personally, I'm rather proud of the high level of effort that goes into this website, and into the news coverage herein, and of the many difficult issues we've tackled with a great deal of effort and integrity that other local media won't touch.
A little update. When Toni Lucas called the local RCMP detachment about this story today she was told Cst. Sokoloski was off, but the Vancouver Sun apparently had better luck. Here's a link to their story with a brief interview with him:

According to my wife's grandfather who homesteaded in Saskatchewan it was customary that a Force member would ride into your farm house just to say hello and check to see whether or not everyone was okay. As a long retired member I know that to be true.An approach such as that is refreshing in this day and age. Kudos to Constable Doug.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with the article, I saw the video, and I no longer live in Pincher Creek as of May this year, I had no idea where the cop was from at the time I saw the video, but I'm impressed that he stopped long enough to participate and play like he did, way to go Constable Doug, Yahoo For Pincher Creek too.
ReplyDeleteJust a note that Cst. Doug is the member assigned to our rural area so that is why he was out there, it's his job. Great PR Cst. Doug
