Updated: Death of Community Police Officer in Turner Valley


Update: Solicitor General mourns the passing of Alberta peace officer

Alberta’s Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Jonathan Denis released this statement following the death of Foothills Community Peace Officer Rod Lazenby.

“It is with great sadness that I express my condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of Foothills Community Peace Officer Rod Lazenby.
Tragedies such as this remind us all of the selfless acts peace and police officers make to protect our safety each and every day. On behalf of all Albertans, I want to recognize Mr. Lazenby for his service and assure his loved ones that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

The Turner Valley RCMP with the assistance of RCMP Major Crimes Unit, and of the Calgary Police Service, are currently investigating the death of a MD of Foothills Community Peace Officer.  The officer was transported to District 8, in medical distress.  He was transported to Foothills Hospital, but sadly, was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The RCMP and CPS have currently secured potential scenes, including a rural residence near Turner Valley and the vehicle in which the officer was transported, as police attempt to determine exactly what occurred today.  An autopsy will be performed on the Community Peace Officer on Monday, which will determine the cause of death.

Calgary Police Service currently have one subject of interest in custody, however, no charges have laid at this point in the investigation.

Update August 11:
1st Degree murder charges were laid earlier today against Trevor Kloschinski a 46 year old male from Priddis, in the death of Rod Lazenby, an MD of Foothills Community Peace Officer. Lazenby died yesterday after attending an animal related call at the accused's residence.

RCMP Major Crimes and Turner Valley RCMP are actively continuing this investigation, and continue to interview potential witnesses.
