Highway 3 accident claims life of Coaldale man


At 4:10 am August 8 RCMP, Lethbridge Regional Police Service,EMS, and Coaldale Fire Department responded to a serious single vehicle collision Westbound on Highway 3, approaching the intersection of Broxburn Road (Range Road 21-0).  A westbound Pontiac Pursuit, being driven by an 18 year old male from Coaldale, left the highway into the center median.  The vehicle rolled, crossed eastbound traffic, and came to rest in the south ditch.

The driver, Richard Leslie Williams III of Coaldale, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.  He sustained serious head injuries, was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital, and was then taken by STARS to Foothills Hospital in Calgary, where he later succumbed to those injuries.

The two 18 year old female passengers (from Coaldale and Lethbridge) sustained minor injuries and were treated at hospital.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision.

The collision is still under investigation and anyone who may of witnessed it is asked to contact the Lethbridge RCMP at 403-329-5080.
