Local RCMP Officers awarded Queen's Jubilee Medals

On Wednesday September 12, Sergeant Joseph Brown of the Piikani Nation RCMP and Constable Robert Wright of the Pincher Creek RCMP were present in Edmonton for a formal ceremony. Both RCMP members were awarded the Queens Jubilee Medal for their service to both their communities and country. The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, Don Ethell was on hand to present the medals along with the RCMP's commanding officer for Alberta, Dale McGowan.

Sergeant Joseph Brown has served in the Pincher Creek and Piikani Nation's area over the last 12 years at different times, acting as both the detachment second in command and detachment commander. Sergeant Brown has twenty years experience with the Mounties, all served in Alberta, including a secondment to the Blood Tribe Police. Sergeant Brown currently serves as the detachment commander on the Piikani First Nations.

Constable Robert Wright has served in Pincher Creek over the last 6 years donating his time to the local D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program, teaching in local elementary schools, assisting the local Royal Canadian Legion with Remembrance day activities and serves as the Scout Master for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pincher Creek. Before coming to Pincher Creek Constable Wright served as a combat solider with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) serving in Kandahar Afghanistan in 2006. Constable Wright was awarded a unit citation in 2010 as a result of his units actions overseas.
