Is that a hippy hippy shake?
On Thursday October 18 the Matthew Halton School lunch area was the site of an unusual event, as several teachers who had agreed to various "challenges" to help raise funds for the Terry Fox Run met their obligations in front of a large crowd of students.  According to teacher and organizer Duane Petluk the Terry Fox Run raised over $3000 this year, a record for the school, and a significant increase over the approximately $100 it raised three or four years ago.  "It's the most successful run we've ever had," Petluck told the students.  "If 100 students complete the 5k run next year, I will shave my head."  His hair is quite long, and he's been reluctant to part with it.  He praised the other teachers for stepping up for challenges to help push the money raised over the $3000 mark.

Cue up Right Said Fred!
Carla Morgan and Vanessa Edwards of Rumours Salon and Spa were on hand to help, and several teachers ended up with new do's, including a startlingly unattractive reverse mohawk for Mr. Harris, as voted on by the cheers of students.  Several other teachers were subjected to a beauty makeover that bodes poorly for the future of Pincher Creek's fashion industry, as did Mr. Schramm's brief foray into alternative apparel.

Fries with that?
One of the highlights of the event: A shake composed of one part Big Mac, one part cola, and one part french fries.  Although several teachers successfully downed their portion of the vile concoction, Mr. Petluk seemed to be having some difficulties digesting his challenge.  Nasty looking drink, that.  Before he could have a second helping the rest of the jug somehow ended up all over the floor.

All things considered, the teachers bore the various indignities with good grace, and the students enjoyed the show immensely.

Don't try this at home, kids
