The fire reported below appeared to be largely extinguished at 6:30 pm, with some firefighters remaining to clean up hot spots.
A large fire has been reported in the Burmis area, with four area fire crews and SRD helicopters responding. Firefighters were still working to contain the fire as of 3:20 pm today. Six homes have been reported evacuated. Winds have been gusting up to 100 km/hr in the area for much of the day.
The fire is located just north of Highway 3 between the Burmis tree and Tallon Peak.
Accidents due to high winds are also reported in the Fort Macleod area and on Highway 22. Motorists are advised to avoid highway travel, particularly large trucks and vehicles with trailers.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
