Matthew Halton School hosts Jr. Girls volleyball tournament

Matthew Halton School was host to a Junior Girls volleyball tournament last weekend, held on Friday, October 12 from 2:15 to 9:00 pm and Saturday, October 13 from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm.  13 teams participated, divided into A and B Girls.

'A' Girls teams included the Halton Hawks, the WCCHS Cobras from Claresholm, the F.P. Walshe Flyers from Fort Macleod, the Crowsnest Pass Pandas, the Burdett Eagles, St. Mary’s Colts from Medicine Hat, the Raymond Comets, and Coalhurst.

'B' Girls teams included the Halton Hawks, St. Michael's Dragons, the F.P. Walshe Flyers, St. Catherine's from Picture Butte, and the Crowsnest Pass Pandas.

Ultimately, the F.P. Walshe Flyers won the A division and the WCCHS Cobras won the B division.  St. Michael's Dragons won the B Consolation over the Halton Hawks.

The tournament was a bit of a tough go for the A and B Hawks.  Both teams struggled valiantly throughout but were repeatedly denied victory.  Being challenged by more experienced teams seemed to bring their skill levels up, and they got stronger as the tournament went on.

"Overall it was a good weekend," said tournament organizer Randy Whitehead.  "I think all the teams enjoyed the good competition.  For the Halton teams I know their outcome wasn't as good as they were probably hoping for but there was improvement througout the tournament for them too, which was good to see."
