Town of Pincher Creek Councillor Don Anderberg had a special addition to his report at the council's meeting earlier this evening, August 26.  "I have an announcement to make.  For Council for next term I'm going to let my name to stand for Mayor," he told council.  "I made my decision a week ago Sunday."

During the intermission between the council's public meeting and the following in-camera session he briefly explained why he was running for the council's top spot.  "I think I could do a good job.  I think I've got the experience, and I'm willing to work hard to try and do a good job, and that's basically what it's about."

Mayor Ernie Olsen has also announced his intention to run for re-election (click here for that story).

Anderberg was Pincher Creek Mayor once before, from 2004 to 2007.   He also served as a councillor from 2001 to 2004 and again during this term from 2010-2013.

"There are a few things I see that don't line up with my vision," he said of council's present direction.  "Ernie decided to run for Mayor last time, and I supported him."  He said personal and business issues prevented him from running for Mayor last time.  "I couldn't do it last time."

Anderberg said the new four year terms that begin with the next term can be daunting to prospective candidates.  "Four years is a big commitment for anybody who does council.  I think the four year council thing is really good, from a business point of view, but you're basically a volunteer and it takes lots of time.  So, I see a lot of people, long term, experienced people, leaving."
