The Pincher Creek and District Chamber of Commerce recently announced that the winner for their Countdown to Christmas Passport contest was Brandi Hutchison. Brandi and Dave Hutchison are the parents of three children and together they filled in two passports. Brandi was delighted to find our that she was the winner and says this is the first time that she has won anything, ever. When she picked up the package that contained $1,250 worth of gift certificates to local businesses she said, "I think it is very important to shop local."

Brandi admits that she had to remind her husband to take the passport and get it stamped at various local businesses when he was running errands. "I like my coupons," she said, and that she would urge Dave to "stamp it up." It payed off. When asked if this would be useful for Christmas, she said, "A little bit, yes."

People were encouraged to shop locally in the weeks leading up to Christmas with a passport that they could collect stamps on at local participating businesses. Once a card was filled they could hand it in for the draw, and each of those businesses put in a $50 gift certificate. With 25 businesses participating, the total for the value package reached an impressive $1,250. The big day to get extra stamps was the day of the Countdown to Christmas/Parade of Lights on November 21. At that time, you could earn double stamps. Chamber of Commerce President Sharon Roberts said that "It was a busy night," and that this endeavour helped to bolster the local economy.
