Greetings from the Residents at Crestview Lodge,

December was a super busy month. The first week was getting ready for the big Tea and Bazaar. Pricing and setting up for the big day was a big chore made easy with lots of help from the residents. Most of the residents didn’t hesitate to help out and we had fun laughing and reminiscing over last year’s busy Bazaar and how cold it was -36 with the wind chill made it -46. The Bazaar was a great success! A Grand Total of $ 4,271.00! From all the hard work of residents and family members as well as the generosity from our community. A huge thank you to everyone that help with donations. Your generosity has made this year’s fundraiser a huge success!  Also a big congratulations again to our winners of the raffle draw. First prize was a 50 inch smart TV that was won by Lorraine Loeffler. Second prize, the extra-large gift basket was won by Celia Tienkamp and third prize, the $200.00 gift certificate for meat at Back Country Butchers was won by Marlene Hochstein.

We had lots of additions to the calendar with entertainment. On the 14th the Annual Carol Festival. The 15th Mennonite kids came in to sing carols. The 17th we had a party with the band Orange Blossom Express in the afternoon to celebrate Mildred’s 102nd Birthday. John Adset came in on the evening of the 19th to play for the residents. Sig and Rose Gail came in on the weekend, Saturday the 20th to also sing with the residents. The Lutheran Church was in to do some caroling with residents on Sunday the 21st. A different kind of singer came to bless us with his music was Alex Shenton. Monday evening the 22nd he came alone and played his guitar. The residents really enjoyed him even though they didn’t know the songs. This was the first time he has sang in front of his grandmother Margery Shenton.

The family Christmas Party for the residents went real well. We had 40 guests join us for our party. Black Jacks were our entertainers. The residents really enjoy them. We gave away 5 door prizes and handed everyone a thank you for coming gift, which was a pen donated by the Town office and candy canes. That made it easier to stop and say thank you personally to everyone that came and residents too. After I read out Twas the Night before Christmas with all the residents mentioned in the story. Everyone laughed and enjoyed the story including the band. It was a very enjoyable evening.

The weather was real bad for the 29th so the coffee outing to the Cowley Restaurant was cancelled. The residents didn’t mind as they really don’t like to leave the building if it looks horrible outside.

For the New Year’s Eve party Barb Lloyd and Galt Baalim stepped up and took over for Charmaine as she was at the hospital with a very sore back. Barb and all the administration staff at Crestview Lodge did a fantastic job. The band Play’n Country was the entertainment and stayed till 10pm. The residents do enjoy them as they know all the songs they play. They had loads of fun with the balloon drop and laughed hard at trying to sit on the balloons and have them pop. Thank you Barb and Galt for all your help to make their evening a success!
