The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta (CFLSA) presented a cheque for $1,000 for 'Youth in Action' to Group Group Youth (GGY) on Friday, January 16.  GGY participant Raivyn spearheaded 'Histories Young Helpers'.  The 13 year old proposed to GGY leader Lynne Teneycke that they start a program where the kids could go to Vista Village Senior Center and do gardening and other activities with the residents. "I enjoy history, and want to hear more about the history of the past from the elders," Raivyn stated on the application she assisted in filling out for the grant.  She put a lot of thought into how GGY could make this a benefit to everyone involved.  "I was told how hard it could be for many of the elders to garden, and thought we could help them."  Some of the goals of GGY were to help buy necessities to plant, and look after some of the gardens, and have sessions where they play board games and do scrapbooking with the residents.

Raivyn expressed that she sees this as an organic way to make a connection with the residents and have different generations helping each other. She expects that this will open up a number of learning opportunities and dialogue while enhancing the beauty of the area.

CFLSA Communication Coordinators Caitlin Gajdostik and Joey Going and Board Member Cliff Elle were very happy to present the cheque at Vista Village.  "I think it is wonderful when money from The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta can benefit the members of Group Group Youth as well as the residents of Vista Village," said Elle.

If anyone is interested in participation in this project they can contact GGY at or phone 403-627-4616.
