Sr. Boys Dragons and Hawks attend Taber basketball tourney, Dragons take Silver

Pincher Creek's Dragons and Hawks Senior Boys teams attended St. Mary's Celtics annual Double-Blue basketball tournament  in Taber on January 16th and 17th.  8 teams participated.  Each team was guaranteed at least three games.


Hawks vs Bassano
Hawks

For their first game of the tournament Halton's Hawks played St. Mary's Celtics on Friday evening. The Celtics won 75-33. The Hawks' second game was Saturday morning against Bassano's Broncos. The first two quarters were a little rough for Halton, with the halftime score being 13-29. They had a great comeback in the third quarter with Hawk Matthew Duncan throwing a basket with .04 seconds left on the clock, to tie the game at 39 going into the fourth quarter. During the fourth quarter the Hawks jumped ahead for the first time in the game with a lead of 41-39. They played a good game and the crowd was on their feet for the final few minutes. The final score was Bassano 52 - Halton 46. The third game Halton played was on Saturday afternoon against Erle River's Comets. The Hawks tried, they rallied, but in the end they lost. The final score was Erle River 71 - Halton 37.



Dragons

The first Dragons game of the tournament was against Bassano's Broncos on Friday night. It was a great game from start to finish and had everyone on their toes. It was tied 34 each at halftime and the final score was St. Mikes 83 - Bassano 82.  St. Mike's second game was on Saturday afternoon against St. Mary's Celtics. The score was St. Mikes 53 - St. Mary's 46. Dragons #7 Jake Varley was named Player of the Game. The Dragons played the championship game on Saturday night against Vauxhall's Sabres, and it was another very close one, but Vauxhall emerged victorious for the Gold by a score of 77-72.
