Town grants request to fund David Halton reception

Toni Lucas

On February 9 Sahra Hancock presented to Council for the Town of Pincher Creek that journalist and author David Halton will speak at Matthew Halton High School on Thursday, March 5 to talk about his new biography, "Dispatches from the Front:  Matthew Halton, Canada's Voice at War", which is about his father Matthew, the school's namesake.  The presentation has been arranged in partnership with Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village, Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library, and Matthew Halton High School.
Hancock is the library's Community Outreach Coordinator.

"We want to tell everybody about this, because it's going to be awesome,"  said Hancock.  She requested $500 from council to help fund an invitation-only reception for approximately 30 people, and to help cover advertising costs.  She said the current tentative plan was to host the reception at Matthew Halton School in the Hawk's Nest, with the food prepared under the guidance of Chef Ian Robertson.  Councillor Wayne Elliott expressed his approval of the idea, saying "What better place?"  Council  unanimously agreed to grant the $500 request.  "If I could put two hands up, I would,"said Elliott.
