2015 Piikani Youth Forum to be held April 8-10

Featured speaker Mike Scott

Emily Peters

The Piikani Nation is proud to be hosting the 7th Annual Youth Forum this April. It is a three day forum to provide opportunities for youth from First Nation communities to come together, network, build friendships, and learn. In the past the forum has highlighted local youth role models as well as big names such as Adam Beach. The theme of this year’s forum is “bringing youth together through technology”.  The forum will take place April 8, 9, and 10th and will be hosted by the Piikani Nation Secondary School.

This year’s forum will be a bit different than years previous, as we have decided to embrace that technology is a part of youth’s everyday lives and have planned the forum around technology’s creative and constructive uses. We will have facilitators coming in to teach about film, broadcast (TV and radio), music production and theatre. The participants will have the opportunity to create their own production piece to be shared with the community at the talent show portion of the forum. The talent show will include local talent of all ages. We will also have the Facebook sensation Mike Scott speaking at the banquet.

This year’s forum has been planned, organized, and funded by the following organizations: Piikani Child & Family Services, Napi Friendship Association, Alberta Health Services, Aakom Kiyii Health Services, Piikani Youth & Education Foundation, Peigan Board of Education, Aboriginal Community & Youth Empowerment Strategy, and Piikani Nation Secondary School.
