More fentanyl seized in Lethbridge

ALERT

For the second time in as many weeks Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) has made a fentanyl seizure in Lethbridge. More than 300 of the fake oxycontin pills were found in a North Lethbridge home on February 26.

ALERT Lethbridge, an integrated team consisting of Lethbridge Regional Police Service and RCMP members, seized the fentanyl pills following the execution of a search warrant at a home in the 100-block of Bluefox Boulevard North. The previous week, on February 20, ALERT seized 88 fentanyl pills from a south Lethbridge apartment.

“ALERT is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the province to not only get fentanyl off the street, but create further awareness about just how deadly the drug is. Fentanyl has been linked to a number of overdose deaths,” S/Sgt. Rod Klassen.

Since April 2014, ALERT has seized more than 14,000 fentanyl pills from across the province. In the majority of instances it is being sold as and made to resemble oxycontin.

ALERT’s most recent investigation specifically targeted Lethbridge men suspected of dealing fentanyl pills.Grant Lamane, 24, Lawrance Kreutz, 21, and William Paksi, 23, were arrested and are now charged with a total of 20 drugs and weapons offences.

A search of the home yielded a variety of evidence consistent with drug trafficking, including:
  • 301 fentanyl pills;
  • 14 grams of psilocybin “magic mushrooms”;
  • 136 grams of marihuana;
  • 90 illicit prescription pills;
  • Three long barrel firearms;
  • Replica handgun;
  • Ammunition;
  • $4,580 cash proceeds of crime.

ALERT was established and is funded by the Alberta Government and is a compilation of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources committed to tackling serious and organized crime. Members of Alberta Sheriffs, Calgary Police Service, Edmonton Police Service, Lethbridge Regional Police Service, Medicine Hat Police Service, and RCMP work in ALERT.
