After their first place finish in the Spud League regular season, Pincher Creek's Novice Chinooks made short work of the first round of playoffs, defeating Kainai's Little Hawks (ranked 8th) by more than 10 points in the first game, held at the MCC arena in Pincher Creek on February 28.  That means the Chinooks will now move to round two of the playoffs.

Chinook Jayden Draper scored the first four goals in the game, the first coming in the first two minutes. A natural hat trick plus 1.  Lane Conley also earned a hat trick.  Other Chinooks scorers were Jaxon Shenton, Daxz Vance, Walker Anderson, Carter North Peigan, Joah Randall, and Josey Wales Waterchief.  Assists went to Randall, Vance, Anderson, Conley, Varian Caldwell and Maddix Dyck.  Mykal Big Sorrel Horse scored twice for Kainai, both unassisted, and Marvin Mistaken Chief also scored for Kainai, assisted by Brooklyn Many Grey Horses.

After the game Chinooks Coach Cory Anderson said "The kids went out and just played like they could, and put the goals in.  The kids played hard, and did well.  We're going to practice hard this week, and see who we meet in the second round."

The Novice Chinooks may have up to three more home games.  "The next one is 2 games/total goals, and the finals for the league, if we make it there, is best of three,"  explained Coach Anderson.

There will be a Novice playoff game this Saturday March 7, 10:45-12:45 vs Warner at the MCC arena.
As for their First Place finish in the regular season he said "They played hard, showed up, and we got extra commitment from all the kids out there, and solid goaltending.  A pretty solid season."
