2015 Experiential Learning Week Carpentry project

Experiential Learning Week Carpentry students with the shed they built

Joey Jackson

Over the course of the recent experiential learning week held the last week of March, construction teacher Zach Harris and the carpentry group built a play shed.  Students from Matthew Halton and Lundbreck high schools both worked towards making the shed in four and a half days to raffle off and help raise some money for the Carpentry program at Matthew Halton.

187 tickets were sold in total for the raffle with the grand prize being the shed, the second prize was an insulated dog house, and a planter was the third prize.   A total of $2805 was raised from the tickets and the money will be going towards purchasing a portable table saw for the Carpentry program. The lucky winner of the Play Shed was Michelle Duncan, while the Insulated Dog House was won by Clara Yagos, who has decided to donate the dog house to the Humane Society, and the Planter is going to Jen Bruder.

After finishing off the raffle Zack Harris had some insight into the same thing maybe happening next year, saying “I would like to thank all the people who bought tickets they have made it worth doing it again”.  So everyone will have to be on alert next year for whatever Zack and the carpentry group do next.
