Girls Rugby: LCI squads blank Hawks

Senior Varsity game - Hawks (in blue) vs LCI
Chris Davis

Pincher Creek's JV and SV Hawks hosted their Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) counterparts for a windy evening of rugby at Sproule Field on Tuesday April 28.  Both Hawks squads showed improvement over their previous games, their season openers against Winston Churchill's squads last week, but were still blanked by wide margins by the LCI squads.

The Senior Varsity (SV) Hawks came very close, probably a yard or so, to their first successful try of the season before having it snatched away by LCI's Kristan Bloor in what was probably the play of the game.  Bloor nabbed the ball from near the Hawks' goal line and ran it all the way to a successful try against a strong westerly headwind, leaving teammates and opposition alike in her wake.

The JV Hawks are a young squad, with many new to the sport, but have a 21-girl strong roster that bodes well for the future of the sport here in Pincher Creek. First they have to get used to the relentless and hard hitting pace of the game.

The gentle sport of rugby
The SV Hawks includes athletes from Livingstone School, Matthew Halton, St. Michael's, and Crowsnest Pass Consolidated.  The JV Hawks includes athletes from all of those schools except Livingstone.

The next scheduled home game for the Hawks is May 11 vs Medicine Hat, at Sproule Field, starting at 5:30 pm.
