Town of Pincher Creek issues RFP for new MCC arena ice plant

Chris Davis/Toni Lucas

The Town of Pincher Creek has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to "Supply and Install a new Chiller and Condenser, including removal and proper disposal of the old system"  at the Memorial Community Centre Arena, located on Main Street.  Sealed tenders/bids will be accepted by the Town until 1:00 pm on April 30, 2015.

According to the Town's RFP, "The intent of this Request for Proposal RFP is to replace the aging Ice Plant at the M.C.C. Arena with a new system to offer more energy efficiencies, lower operational costs and power consumption. This system is intended to be operational on or before the arena plant start-up date of September 14th, 2015."

Recreation Manager Adam Grose explained that the condenser is 26 years old and the chiller is 35 years old, installed in 1979.  "This is because of life cycle planning," He said that there have only been minor issues with the equipment their expected 15-20 year life span has been exceeded. "They are looking to replace the older units with ones that are smaller, more energy efficient, and economical to run."  The project is budgeted for up to $165,000.

Grose said there was also a RFP out for an engineering report for the trusses in the arena, budgeted up to $35,000, with a deadline of April 23.  "2002 was our last structure report."
