Town of Pincher Creek Recreation Department can now take credit card payments

Toni Lucas

During the regular meeting of Pincher Creek Town Council on Monday, April 13, Council approved a policy outlining the responsibilities, procedures and security maintenance for use of payment cards at the Town of Pincher Creek Multi-purpose Facility to collect Recreation Department admissions, rentals, programs, fees, and deposits.

The Multi-Purpose Facility previously only accepted cash, cheque and debit card payments for their point-of-sale transactions. Administration said that there have been times when patrons were turned away from the facility because of the inability to accept credit card transactions. Another bonus they see to taking funds in this manner is that they can start taking reservations at the Town operated Veterans’ Memorial Campground. The Town Recreation Department receives numerous calls from campers each year asking if they can accept reservations and this request could be accommodated with use of a credit card system.

Councillor Doug Thornton asked if this means that citizens would be able to pay taxes on a credit card. CAO Laurie Wilgosh said not at this time as the system is for the Recreationa Department only.
