On April 28, 2015 just before 2:30 a.m. police located the bodies of Kyle Devine, 27, Clarissa English, 24, and Dakota English, 18, inside their home along the 200 block of McGill Boulevard after responding to a 911 call from a neighbour who had been retrieving property from his vehicle and observed the victims through a window of the home.
Autopsies completed at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary confirmed the three victims died from multiple stab wounds.
Investigation determined the accused is an acquaintance of the victims and was known to associate with them. At the time of the murders, the accused was at large on a recognizance in relation to a previous incident where he was charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats in relation to a physical altercation with Kyle Devine earlier in April. One of the conditions of the recognizance was no contact with Devine.
Further investigation established the accused had been in the company of the victims during the hours prior to their deaths and on April 29, 2015 he was subsequently arrested, charged for breach of his conditions and remanded to the Lethbridge Correctional Centre.
During the course of the investigation police recovered forensic evidence and several knives alleged to have been used in the murders. Further details with respect to the evidence will not be disclosed as the matter is before the courts.
On May 13, 2015, police attended the Lethbridge Correctional Centre and arrested the 21-year-old man in connection with the homicides.
The evidence indicates the accused acted alone.
Austin Lane Vielle, 21, is charged with three counts of second-degree murder. He is remanded to appear in court May 21 at 9:30 a.m.
