Oldman River Gun Club ready for a new season

On May 3 approximately 25 members of the Old Man River Gun Club (OMRGC) gathered to prepare the range for the 2015 season. The members performed tasks on the range such as replacing backer boards, removing rocks, structure cleaning, trap machine maintenance, target loading, sign placement and many other tasks to ready the range for members use.

The club has three trap ranges and facilities for rifles and handguns and was used for the 2014 Summer Games. The RCMP and Sustainable Resource Development use the range for training and qualification of their members. The Club has twice weekly Trap shoots during the summer with about 35 members participating regularly. In the fall the Club holds a yearly “Shooting in the Wind” trap shoot with an attendance of 50 or more competitors, some coming from as far away as Edmonton. A portion of the proceeds from these yearly shoots are donated to local charities.

Old Man River Gun Club did not achieve the clean up on their own. The M.D. of Pincher Creek donated the gravel for improving the range. The use of the highway tractor to haul the gravel was donated by Kluane Construction, the trailer was donated by Grumpy’s Greenhouses and Gardens Ltd and Freedom 45 Ltd, the gravel pit loader and operator was donated by Southwest Concrete Products Ltd, the loader used to strip and spread at the range was donated by Fitzpatrick Landscaping Ltd and Walter Schauerte kept the rig rolling and everybody in line during the gravel haul. OMRGC would like to express their appreciation for all the efforts of these organizations and individuals.
