Two fires quickly contained in Pincher Creek area

Toni Lucas

Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES) responded to two grass fires recently. One was late in the morning on Monday, May 4 near the Oldman Dam. There was a problem with a transformer that started a fire to a power pole and the surrounding grass. A local farmer stopped the spread of the grass fire and PCES put out the power pole fire after the power was turned off. The other PCES fire response was on Tuesday, May 6 at approximately 2:00 pm on Highway 3 near the Summerview feedlot. Sheriff Department members spotted and contained the fire to a small area in the ditch and PCES responded to make sure there were no hot spots or flareups. Engine 43 responded to both incidents.
