Soggy end to 2015 Hawks Baseball season

Pincher Creek's High School Hawks finished their season by participating in the 2015 Southern Alberta High School Baseball Tier 2 Championships, held at Sproule Field in Pincher Creek and Hillcrest field last weekend.  It turned out to be a wet and somewhat flat end to what was an interesting season for the reborn Hawks team, with both of their games ending in wet disappointment.

They played the first game of the series against Foremost's Falcons, the top ranked team.  The Falcons managed a grand slam in the first inning, setting the pace early, and finishing the sleepy Hawks off 14-6 as the rain began to fall. Hawks' closing pitcher Beau Walter did get to show off some of his recently learned improvements to good effect.  The second and last game of the tournament for the Hawks was at the field in Hillcrest, where they played the Picture Butte's Kings.  The Hawks were ahead 5-0 early on, but that wasn't to be the story.   The clouds opened up and the rain began to intensify as the Kings racked up hit after hit and run after run, ultimately winning it 15-5 as the field became unplayable. That was a long way from April 16th's regular season game (the first real game for the Hawks, when the Hawks defeated the Kings in a 15-14 come from behind upset.

Eagle Butte's Talons defeated Cardston and Taber (by 18-8 in both games), finishing by defeating the Foremost Falcons in the Final by a narrow 10-8.

The Hawks ended their regular season 4-5-1, and the two tournament games marked the end of a season that also marked the team's return after a yearlong hiatus, and was the first season under Head Coach Bryan Burns. The Hawks are a mixed-school team, which included four athletes from St. Michael's and six from Matthew Halton this season.
