MD of Pincher Creek No. 9 councillor Grant McNab has resigned his Division 1 seat. In accordance with the Municipal Government Act, a by-election will be held (if necessary) to fill it. McNab was one of two council members who were elected, not acclaimed, in the October 2013 election, the other being current Reeve Brian Hammond. McNab defeated incumbent Helen Cyr in that election. Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Wendy Kay received McNab's resignation notice on June 29 and a special meeting of council was held on July 7 to address the issue.
Councillor McNab suffered a stroke just two months into his term, which resulted in a lengthy hospital stay and paralysis issues, which in turn kept him from the council table. In recent months he has attended council regularly.
Nominations for the Division 1 seat will be held August 17, 2015 from 10:00 until noon. An advance poll, if necessary, will be held September 9 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. An election, if necessary, will be held September 14 from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. CAO Kay has been appointed as Returning Officer and the Development Officer's Assistant Tara Cryderman has been appointed as the Deputy Returning Officer.
Council for the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9 has a mandate until October of 2017.
