Pincher Creek water treatment plant project to receive $1,800,000

According to a press release from the office of Macleod MP John Barlow dated July 31 on behalf of the governments of Canada and Alberta, Town of Pincher Creek is to receive $1,800,000 in funding from the New Building Canada Plan’s Small Communities Fund.  The money is to be used to upgrade water distribution and install a UV system at the Town's water treatment plant.  It's one of 56 infrastructure projects in Alberta approved for federal/provincial joint funding.

"I am very excited to announce these projects are receiving funding through the New Building Canada Plan - the largest and longest infrastr‎ucture program in Canadian history. These are critical projects for these communities and it shows our Conservative Government understands the importance of providing funding to ensure the health and vitality of our rural communities across Canada and here in Macleod."  - John Barlow, Member of Parliament for Macleod

From the press release:

"Funding for these projects will help Alberta communities improve drinking water and wastewater systems, major roads, disaster mitigation, public transit, and solid waste management. Once complete, the work will significantly improve key municipal services for residents and help boost regional development."

"The Small Communities Fund is part of the $10-billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component of the New Building Canada Fund. It is providing $1 billion to municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs. These investments support job creation and economic growth, thus sustaining a high quality of life in small communities across Alberta for years to come."

“Our government is proud to be making unprecedented investments in public infrastructure across Alberta. Through the federal Small Communities Fund, we will help get 56 projects going across the province to help improve drinking water, handle wastewater more effectively, make solid waste management better, improve public transit, and upgrade disaster mitigation.” - The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of National Defence, Minister for Multiculturalism and Member of Parliament for Calgary Southeast

“The Alberta government is committed to making life better for Albertans. Contributing to the development of critical infrastructure that provides clean water, safe roads and effective transit are just a few of the ways we can help build strong communities. We are pleased to partner on the Small Communities Fund and help some of our smallest municipalities.” - The Honourable Deron Bilous, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister of Service Alberta
