Locals attending the Pincher Creek High School Rodeo were all vying for the same prize: the Altie Rutledge Memorial Trophy, which is given to the local High Point Contestant. Grade 10 student Jack Mitchell from Twin Butte was the recipient of this year. This is his second year competing at the High School Rodeo, after two years of Junior Rodeo. The trophy was created to honour the memory of Altie Rutledge, a lifelong rodeo volunteer, following his passing in 1989.  It was given out the first time at the 1990 Cowley-Lundbreck Rodeo.

Support from people like the Rutledge family is integral in running the High School Rodeo. The award was presented by Altie’s nephew, Steve Rutledge.
