press release

In the spring of 2015 the Friends of the Library group celebrated its 25th anniversary. This included a small, private party at the library on Friday May 15, 2015 in which the Board members and Library staff honoured the Friends group.

In addition to light refreshments, a string quintet provided live music. Musicians were Mary Cote, Anne Elle, Blair Amundsen, Carola Michalsky, and Catherine DeCock, accompanied by Caroline Johnson on keyboard.

Special commemorative mugs were commissioned from local potter Judith Green. About 50 of these mugs were presented to members of the community who volunteer or have volunteered with the Friends group in the first 25 years. Not all invitees were able to be present.

Maureen Rouleau, Barb Kananen and Anne Elle received Janifer Calvez prints in honour of their 20+ years of membership in the Friends of the Library group.

Prints by local artist Janifer Calvez were presented to members who had been active for over 20 years, Maureen Rouleau, Barb Kananen, Anne Elle, and Betty Gamble (who was unable to be present).

Bill Smith, Karen Lyons, Caroline Johnson, and Rose Johnson have all been involved with the Friends group since the first or second meeting. They also received Janifer Calvez prints.

Calvez prints were also given to Karen Lyons, Rose Johnson, Caroline Johnson & Bill Smith. These four individuals joined the group by the first or second meeting and three of them are still active members.

Town councillor Lorne Jackson and M.D. Reeve Brian Hammond brought greetings on behalf of their respective councils. The Library Board gratefully acknowledges the financial support from the Town and the M.D. which helped to make the celebration possible.

Chinook Arch Regional Libraries CEO Maggie Macdonald was unable to attend but sent greetings. “There is no doubt that the more than $400,000.00 you have raised has been of major importance to your library. The equipment and resources you have contributed have benefited the entire community and district, and your support has doubtless made a significant impact on the lives of the countless individuals who have enjoyed the services of the Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library.”

“It is always a benefit to the library to have a strong group of supporters in its corner”.

Blair Amundsen, Carola Michalsky, Mary Cote, Catherine DeCock, Anne Elle, Caroline Johnson

Never a group to be slackers, the Friends are in the final stages of planning the Fall Friends of the Library book sale. If you wish to support the sale, please bring any donations (except text books, Condensed books and magazines) to the Co-op Mall on the afternoon or evening of Tuesday October 6.

At the spring 2015 book sale, just over $2,600.00 was raised. At the request of the library staff, the money was spent to update certain collections, specifically books-on-CD for children and adults and the large print collection. An annual donation was made to the Pincher Planters to help them maintain the flower beds around the library.
