60,927 of 82,380 registered electors turned out in Foothills (not including electors who registered on election day), a turnout of 73.96%. That compares to a countrywide average 61.1% turnout in the 2011 federal election, and a similar countrywide turnout of 66.1% in this election. Foothills is a new electoral district this election, so there are no directly comparable turnout statistics for it. The turnout for the 2011 federal election was 61.52% in the former Macleod electoral district, which included Pincher Creek and Crowsnest Pass, among other communities. A byelection for Macleod was held in 2014, with a turnout of 19.92%, won by John Barlow in his first attempt at federal office. Turnout in Alberta for the 2015 election was 66.73 % with 96.56% of the polls reported.
Barlow was formerly the Associate Publisher and Editor of the Okotoks Western Wheel.
