Ms. Tanner received her Bachelor of Education in 1998 from the University of Saskatchewan and her Master of Education in 2009 from the University of Alberta. Ms. Tanner joined the staff of Matthew Halton High School in 2011 and was appointed Assistant Principal in 2012. Prior to her appointment in Pincher Creek, she was employed by Chinook School Division as a teacher at Swift Current Comprehensive High School for ten years and, subsequently as Vice Principal at Central Elementary in Swift Current. Ms. Tanner has had many leadership experiences at the secondary level including being an instructional leader for a science department, creating a literacy curriculum, developing a resource guide for Grade 10 students and serving as a learning resource teacher.
While at Matthew Halton High School, in addition to serving as Assistant Principal, Ms. Tanner has served as their Learning Support Teacher. Additionally, she has been instrumental in various divisional committees such as Instructional Council and the Literacy Committee. Her strong work ethic and her previous experiences will serve her well in her appointment of Acting Principal.
Ms. Tanner will be replacing Sandy McDuffe who has accepted a position in another school division.
Livingstone Range School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Greg Freer as Acting Assistant Principal of Matthew Halton High School in Pincher Creek. This appointment will be effective February 22, 2016 for the remainder of the 2015-2016 school year.
Mr. Freer received his Bachelor of Education in 1994 from the University of Alberta and is currently a graduate student in the Master of Education Studies Program working on his research project to complete his Master of Education, also from the University of Alberta. Mr. Freer started his teaching career in Fort McMurray where he taught for six years prior to coming to Matthew Halton High School in 2000, where he has been instrumental in teaching social studies. In addition, Mr. Freer is also the academic advisor for both Matthew Halton High and Napi Friendship Center. In 2010 Mr. Freer taught in Queensland, Australia for one year under the Teacher Exchange Programs.
Mr. Freer’s belief in personalized learning and promoting a safe and welcoming learning environment to optimize student achievement will serve the students and staff of Matthew Halton High very well.
Mr. Freer will be replacing Tara Tanner who has accepted the position of Acting Principal for the same time frame.
