Pincher Creek RCMP is distributing a news release due to the increased number of thefts from vehicles occurring in the area. This year Pincher Creek RCMP has responded to 34 complaints of this nature. Some of the most common items stolen include, but are not limited to, purses, wallets, money, identification, keys, cellphones, iPods, and GPS units. Almost all of the items have been taken from an unlocked vehicle. Most of the items have been in plain sight from outside vehicle.
Pincher Creek RCMP would like to remind the public to always double check that your vehicle(s) is/are locked. As well, when ever possible, avoid leaving anything of value in your vehicle(s). If this cannot be avoided, hide all items of value so they are not visible from outside the vehicle. Most offenders are only looking for a quick grab and go. They are not willing to damage the vehicle in order to gain access. When possible, park your vehicle(s) in well-lit areas that are busy with a lot of activity, do not leave your vehicle running, take extra keys out of your vehicle, do not leave windows open, and report any suspicious activity to police.
If you have information on this, or any other crime, contact the Pincher Creek RCMP Detachment at 403-627-6010 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property or the seizure of illicit drugs, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
