Midget Huskies turn it around against Rockies

Josh Davis - The Midget Huskies are looking good in the new year. On Friday, Janurary 8 they hosted the Cochrane Rockies at the Memorial Community Center Arena in Pincher Creek. The Rockies have a tough team, and eked out a lead in the first two periods. The Chinooks turned the game around in the third, winning 4-3.



The teams were a good match for each other in the tight first period. The Rockies #12 Takuro Okada scored the first goal of the game with 3:41 left in the first, assisted by #87 Sam Norris.

The Rockies were playing aggressively in the second period, and were hit with a lot of penalties. #98 Jack Fairfield scored the Rockies second goal of the game shorthanded, with assistance from Okada shortly into the period. Halfway through the period #9 Nick Jordan put the Huskies on the board, assisted by #19 Ethan Richards and #4 Tyson Goodreau. The Huskies #10 Chase Snider scored a goal during a power play with 6:56 left on the clock, assisted by Jordan and #22 Jason Creighton, tying the score up. But Fairfield put another on in in the final moments of the period, regaining the Rockies' lead.

However, in the third period the Chinooks turned it around. The Huskies scored two goals during power plays in this period, one by #11 Jesson Luco, assisted by Jason Creighton and Tyson Goodreau, and another by Chase Snider assisted by #23 Craig Marshall and Goodreau. The Rockies pulled their goalie a couple of times during this period, but were unable to score the goal they needed to tie the game.

The previous weekend the Midget Huskies defeated Airdrie decisively in two games, 7-1 on Saturday January 2 and 10-0 on Sunday, January 3. They are next scheduled to play the Okotoks Oilers on Saturday January 16, 2016 at Pincher Creek's MCC Arena.

Another win for the Bantam Huskies

Josh Davis - On Sunday January 10 Pincher Creek's Bantam Huskies hosted the RMAA Renegades at Pincher Creek's MCC Arena. The Huskies are a strong team, and the were in great form. The game was close until the third period, but the Huskies ultimately won 5-3.



Both teams traded evenly in the first. #9 Spencer Dorge scored the Huskies first goal of the game during a power play, assisted by #8 Jace Lewis and #2 Easton Fitzpatrick. Renegade #19 Zak Taillefer scored this period.

In the second period the Renegades #5 Dawson Mailer scored a goal, and they held their lead throughout the period. However, the Huskies were in good form, and were making a lot of shots on the net. The game was far from over.


In the third period the Huskies scored four goals to the Renegades one. Three of them were made by #13 Hunter Gumundson, with one by #5 Brayden Scotton. Two more assists went to Fitzpatrick Dorge this period, with one each going to #12 Abigail Cryderman, #18 Lyndon Ewen, #7 Matt Merrit, and #4 Sam Jordan. Renedage #17 Colby Knight scored a single goal in this period.

The previous day the Huskies were defeated 4-2 in Chestermere. They are next scheduled to play on January 23 in Hanna against the Elks.

Picture Butte Blades defeat Atom Chinooks

Josh Davis - On Saturday January 9, 2015, the Atom Chinooks hosted the Picture Butte Blades at Pincher Creek's MCC Arena. The previous day they were defeated by the Blades in Picture Butte 9-5. On Saturday they performed much better, but were defeated 4-2.



Each team scored a single goal in the first period. #2 Lane Conley scored the first goal of the game with 8:12 left in the first, assisted by #12 Jaydon Draper. The Blades #4 Leland Gellrich scored a goal in the final minutes of the period.

Things went south for the Chinooks in the second period, however, with the Blades scoring two goals, one by #13 Riley Hillaby and one by #3 Aspen Tresierra.



In the third period each team scored a single goal. The Blades #9 Cameron Hillaby scored the first goal of the period. #4 Drew Stuckey scored his own goal in this period unassisted.

Previous on January 3, 2016, the Chinooks played the Flyers in Foremost, and were defeated 11-5. They are next scheduled to play Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Raymond Ice Arena against the Raymond Ice.

Update on Novice and Peewee Chinooks

Josh Davis - The Peewee Chinooks played two different games on the weekend of January 2-3; one against Irvine and one against Picture Butte. Irvine defeated the Chinooks 5-3. The Chinooks were tied 4-4 in their game against Picture Butte.

The Peewee Chinooks played two more away games on the weekend of January 8-9, against Irvine again and against Bow Island's A Rebels. Irvine defeated them 11-5, but they defeated Bow Island 5-4.

The Novice Chinooks also played two games that weekend against the Crowsnest Pass Thunder. They defeated the Thunder both day, 7-5 on Saturday and 9-5 on Sunday.
