Atom Chinooks defeat Foremost Flyers in game one of Provincial Playoffs

Pincher Creek’s Atom Chinooks took to the ice on Friday, February 19, hosting the Foremost Flyers at the MCC Arena in Pincher Creek for Game 1 of the Provincial Playoffs. The Chinooks took the lead early on, but the Flyers tied the game in the second period. The Chinooks scored a single goal in the third period, winning the game 4-3.

The Chinooks scored three goals in the first period, one by #18 Walker Anderson assisted by #2 Lane Conley and #3 Eric Radvak, one by #4 Drew Stuckey assisted by #12 Jayden Draper and #24 Mayz Vance, and one scored by #16 Aiden Potts assisted by #11 Jaxon Shenton. The Flyers were putting up a fight, and spent the first half the period taking shots at the net, but the Chinooks goaltender, associated player #8 Bowen Hann, didn’t let any of them get through.

The Chinooks were unsuccessful in defending their lead in the second period. The Flyers scored three goals in this period, one by #8 Owen Finstad assisted by #16 Katelan Virostek and #6 Jaxson Snortland, one by #5 Julian Laqua assisted by #7 Katelyn Hirsche and #34 Anderson Kurtzweg, and one by #34 Anderson Kurtzweg assisted by #10 Easton Mehlen.

In the provincial playoffs every point counts and the game remained tied for most of the third period. Bowen Hann was making crucial saves throughout the third period, with assistance by his defensemen. #9 Maddix Dyck even dove to the ice to block a shot, keeping the game tied. With 3:51 left in the period, Jayden Draper scored the game deciding goal of the game, assisted by Aiden Potts and Eric Radvak.
