Retiring Senior Dragons: Rebecca Lowry, Ashtyn Duncan, Samantha Cyr, Megan McGlynn, Alissa Bonertz, and (missing from photo) Jordan Smith |
On Tuesday, February 29, the Pincher Creek Girls JV and SV Basketball teams hosted their WCCHS Cobras counterparts. The JV Cobras defeated the Hawks 45-31. Both Pincher Creek teams are amalgamations of St. Michael's and Matthew Halton students this season. The SV game was close, but the Dragons won it 60-50. Since this will be the last home game for the girls Dragons before zones and the tournament season, Pincher Coach John Lowry took a moment between the games to honour his departing senior athletes and their supportive family members.
“It’s been a pleasure working with them this season,” said Coach Lowry. “For the longest time I’ve been coaching against half of these girls, and it was fun when I started coaching with them, and not having to have that rivalry between St Mike’s and Matthew Halton.” Six young ladies are graduating from the Senior Girls teams this year, including Samantha Cyr, Ashtyn Duncan, Megan McGlynn, Rebecca Lowry, Alissa Bonertz, and Jordan Smith, who was absent.

Pincher Creek's JV Hawks played the Cobras at the Halton gym before the senior games. As reported in an earlier article, the Hawks managed to bridge the gap somewhat in the fourth quarter, but the Cobras ultimately won 45-31.
