Crowsnest Pass Thunder edges Novice Chinooks at MCC

Josh Davis

On Saturday March 5 Pincher Creek's Novice Chinooks took to the ice at the MCC Arena in Pincher Creek, hosting the Crowsnest Pass Thunder for a semi-final playoff game. The teams were evenly matched, and the game was close. However, in the final period the Thunder took the lead, winning 3-2.

The first period was tight and exciting, with neither side scoring any goals until the final minutes of it. With 2:51 on the clock, #16 Zack Uphill scored the first goal of the game for the Thunder, assisted by #14 Cierra Wemp. However the Chinooks #11 Daxz Vance tied the game up in the opening seconds of the second period. The Thunder suffered ten minutes of penalty time in this period. However, the Chinooks were unable to turn that opportunity into scoring power, and the game remained tied into the third.

In the first half of the third period, the Thunder scored two goals; another one by Uphill, assisted by #18 Branden Anctil, and one by #17 Tristen Kriger, unassisted in a power play, putting the Thunder in the lead by two. Chinook #17 Cashe Kropinak closed the gap, scoring one more goal for the Chinooks in the final 30 seconds, assisted by #16 Walker Anderson and #24 Carter North Peigan.

The next Novice Chinooks playoff game is scheduled for Friday March 11, at 7:30 pm vs Raymond Kainai at Pincher Creek's Memorial Community Centre Arena.
