We love the idea of faith in fact we might even say we have faith BUT the idea that we might have to act on that faith is something totally different. It means we need to step out, and act on something we cannot see, hear, or touch. We are stepping out and saying I believe in Jesus, but then to often we hide from actually living this out. WHY? For fear, pride, ego, I can’t answer that for you; I have had to over the years answer that for myself. What I can say is that the Bible is clear on what faith without action looks like. James 2:14 “What good is it my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? – 17 so also faith by itself if it does not have works is dead.” This is NOT saying that good works will save you because it won’t, it doesn’t matter how much good you or I do, we can never, never earn our way to heaven. That is an awesome reality, it sounds narrow but it isn’t. God wishes that none would perish, but that all would reach repentance 2 Peter 3:9. God did not hold up His bar and say jump, He does not expect us to complete a certain amount of good, and we are in. He does expect that all who want to be with Him one day will acknowledge that we have messed up and then ask God directly for forgiveness. There is no man to get in the way; this is just between you and God. Then He asks that you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sin, and that by the pouring out of His blood we are saved from the punishment that we deserve because of what we have done. We are saved from having to perform and do things, or trying to out way the scale of good and bad. Jesus paid it all, all He asks is that we turn and trust Him.
