It’s not all about me

Chris Ney - I always had this idea when I was first a believer that prayer was about me, I mean; I knew it was to God but I thought it was for me to ask for something, and He was supposed to give it to me. I would often ask Him for money, newer car, house, and more stuff like that. I would kneel down and say God I am trying to live for you don’t I deserve these things, doesn’t your word tell me that what I ask for in your name I will get. Time would go by and He wouldn’t answer the way I thought He should so I would get mad and ask for something else. The funny thing is that I wasn’t seeing those prayers answered; all I was seeing were the prayers about other people being answered, and I was seeing people get their prayers answered that didn’t really need it, or at least to me they didn’t seem to need it.

Wow, I look back now and just wonder who did I think I was, and then God took me to where Luke wrote about two men who came before the Lord and prayed. One stood tall and proud and prayed “ thank God I am not like the other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this guy.” It hit me right between the eyes as I looked back and said wow that was me; I was the Pharisee standing proud thinking I was better then the others because I was serving God, and going to church. Then I read further and there was the other man, a tax collector, on his knees before the Lord crying out “have mercy on me Lord a sinner.” I realized quickly that it was there where God wanted me, and where He wants us. Beating our chest saying God I am here, have mercy on me as I humble myself before you and submit to you.

God wants us in a place where we don’t think of ourselves better then anyone, and truthfully we are not better then anyone else. We are not perfect, we do not have it all together, we are just as messed up as everyone else; so shame on us for standing on a pedestal thinking we are above anyone. God’s love is for all, I learned at that moment that I needed to actually start living like that. I needed to love God, Love others before myself, and live out the truth of the gospel. Live out the life that Jesus died for. Where are you today? Are you living for something or for yourself? Do you think of yourself better then anyone else? Truth time! Your not! We are all created to give glory to God, and to know Him.

If you have never really known Him maybe now is the time, Jesus has done the work, He died on the cross paying for all of your sins. He defeated death, hell and the grave so that you today could become adopted into His family. The Bible says if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the grave you will be saved, ask Jesus for forgiveness, believe in Him and you will be in relationship with Him. Oh what a Savior!!!

If you are in town and looking for a family to belong to I would like to invite you to join us Sunday mornings at 1030 @ Vertical Church 1200 Ken Thornton Blvd. All are welcome and no perfect people are allowed.

You are loved
