Something in the Water

Chris Ney - Have you ever used the term what is in the water? How did you use it, I know when I have used it I was thinking of being somewhere and the kids were tall, or big, or there were families with lots of kids. I usually hear it used in a sarcastic way trying to figure out why something has happened or grown the way it has. Could be plants, could be people but usually it refers to something different and or something big.

We often get really excited at Vertical Church about water because there is something in the water, not just the drinking water, but in the waters of baptism there is something in the water. It is one of us; and it is the step of baptism; baptism is a great celebration of new life in Christ. What does baptism mean, in the Greek language it was written as “baptizo” meaning to fully immerse, and like Jesus did before us we to go into the water and go fully under the water. Baptism symbolizes outward to the world about the inward salvation one has received declaring that they are now on team Jesus. I know a bit of a silly analogy but bare with me it works. Going into the waters of baptism do not save you but they do represent what Jesus did for us in dying and coming back to life on the third day. Baptism symbolizes this as we go under the water, and then come back up we are symbolizing death the old self, and coming up a new person in Jesus; we are at that moment celebrating new life.

This new life only comes from making a personal decision to follow Jesus as Lord and Savior, not one or the other but both and from turning from the old ways, and now turning to Jesus. I have heard it said that if baptism happens any other way it is really just taking a bath. It really has no meaning unless accompanied by a relationship with Jesus. Do you have a relationship with Jesus, if not you can today right where you are reading this, ask Jesus for forgiveness for all you have done and confess Jesus as Lord and believe that God raised Him from the grave and you will begin a relationship with Him. Isn’t that amazing you can have a personal relationship with Jesus the creator of all things. If you know Him as Lord and Savior and have never been baptized, Why not? What are you waiting for? This is a great way to walk in the life God has called you to.

Either way we would like to invite you out any Sunday morning at 10:30am to Vertical Church 1200 Ken Thornton Blvd to join us for our family gathering (church service).

All are welcome and we would be excited to have you join us

You are loved!
