Poor driving conditions on Hwy 1 and Hwy 2 near Calgary, Airdrie, and Olds

RCMP Alberta -  Cochrane RCMP are responding to several motor vehicle collisions on Highway 1, west of Calgary.

The sudden heavy snowfall is causing severe adverse driving conditions with low visibility and slippery roads.  Police are asking the public to avoid travelling on the highways and remain indoors.  If travel is absolutely necessary, please ensure your headlights are turned on for improved visibility to all motorists, leave sufficient space between vehicles, slow down and exercise extreme caution.

Please drive safely.Airdrie RCMP's Integrated Traffic Unit and Rural Units are responding to several motor vehicle collisions on Highway 2 north of Airdrie.

RCMP also reports there is heavy snowfall in Airdrie and surrounding areas which has lead to low visibility and slippery roads.  Police are asking the public to avoid traveling on Highway 2 between Airdrie and Olds.  If travel is absolutely necessary, ensure your headlights are on for improved visibility to all motorists, leave sufficient space between vehicles, slow down and exercise extreme caution.

Police are also advising the public that there are numerous emergency vehicles and tow trucks on the highway at various locations to deal with the collisions.  Please be aware of their presence, slow down and give them room to work.
