The birdies were flying fast and frequently at the first Pincher Creek Badminton Club games of the year.  Mike Barkwith is one of the club's organizers. He noted that there were more new people this year, with approximately 20 people in attendance.  "We welcome everyone.  We don't have coaches, but the people here are helpful and willing to help along those that have not played before," Barkwith said, while indicating the courts where young and old were playing. "We appreciate that Mathew Halton lets us use their facilities," mentioned Barkwith.

Jim Gardiner, Minister at Crowsnest Community Christian Centre, found out about the club through word-of-mouth, and came out for the evening.  "I have been playing for years, and I love a fast game, and meeting people.  It is great exercise," he said, mentioning that he used to play in Manitoba before he came to Alberta.

Don Taylor has played with the club for years.  Taylor said that he enjoys "visiting in between games, and the chance to move the muscles in new and different directions than I use them in the day."

The Pincher Creek Badminton Club meets every Friday from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Matthew Halton High School gymnasium.  To join for the season is $10.00 per person, or $15.00 for a family membership. The drop-in fee for an evening is $2.00.  Badminton offers a great way of connecting with people, and the chance to enjoy a fun sport indoors through the cooler months.
