The Pincher Creek Curling Club had a late start on the season, kicking it off with Men's league action last week.  On Friday and Saturday they held a Bonspiel at the Pincher Creek rink, with 8 men's and 8 ladies teams competing.  "Its not just folks from Pincher Creek," said Club President Randy Elliott, indicating a table of players from Fort Macleod.  Other teams came from Claresholm and the Crowsnest Pass.  "We have players from all around here.  They wanted to support our club, and we needed the players," he said. "We are pretty happy with the first spiel of the year."

"This year has been a real struggle with the late start," Elliott said of the challenges facing the club this season.  "People have already made plans.  Even the leagues have had problems filling up.  We have opened the mixed leagues so that there is no more than 2 men on a team."

The good natured rivalries that so often accompany this most social of sports was evident over the course of the two-day event.  Many of our local curlers were quite pleased to be back at the old rink, even though its future remains up in the air.  Friday night's event featured live dance music performed by Tokomo, and Saturday's event featured a fine feast before the finals.
