Cowboys vs Lakers in RHL action

January has been a rough month for the Peigan Cowboys.  On January 7 they were defeated by the Blackfoot Miners 13-3.  On January 14 they played the Brooks Black Hawks, losing that game by a whopping 16-1.  On January 20 they lost to Nanton 7-3.  On Saturday, January 21, they hosted the Lomond Lakers at Pincher Creek's MCC Arena.

Due to the Napi Pow Wow being held in Pincher Creek at the same time,  a smaller crowd than usual came out to watch the Cowboys play.  Lomond showed up without jerseys, and ended up dressing in Cowboys' "away" gear, which made for a somewhat odd sight on the ice.  Hometown spirits were raised when Cowboys #8 Otis Potts scored early in the first period.  Lomond bounced back in a big way, scoring five goals in a row, leaving the Cowboys in the dust for much of the period.  The Cowboys bounced back with two goals near the end of the period, including another by Otis Potts, and one by #25 Dan Bikman.

The Lakers dominated the second period as well, scoring twice before Cowboys' #17 Dan Robertson managed to slip one in.  Cowboys #6 Jay Potts and Lakers #17 Kyle Sergeant were ejected from the game for a doozy of a brawl.  Lomond scored once more, ending the period 10-4 for the  Lakers.

All the fans asked from the Cowboys at this point was a good third period, and they delivered.  They held Lomond off until the 10:17 mark, letting one in at that point, and then rallied their forces, scoring four times in the last six and a half minutes of the game, and taking the period, but not the game. Dan Bikman scored two of those goals, with Marcus Healy and Jacey French scoring one apiece.

Final score, Lakers 15, Cowboys 8

Next up for the Cowboys, an away-game against Brooks on Saturday, January 28, 8 pm.  It's do or die time for the Cowboys.  They need to lift themselves off the bottom of the RHL standings to make the playoffs.
