Waterton Lakes National Park news release

Parks Canada is pleased to introduce Mr. Ifan Thomas, who recently started in his position as the new Field Unit Superintendent for Waterton Lakes National Park and Bar U Ranch National Historic Site.

Mr. Thomas has worked for Parks Canada for over 26 years. Since 2008, he was the Field Unit Superintendent for the Western Arctic, where he was responsible for Aulavik, Ivvavik, and Tuktuk Nogait national parks, Pingo Canadian Landmark and Saoyú ʔehdacho National Historic Site.

As Field Unit Superintendent, Mr. Thomas will lead the Parks Canada team responsible for the management of Waterton Lakes National Park and Bar-U Ranch National Historic Site, as well as other national historic sites located in southern Alberta.

His core duties will be to ensure the effective stewardship of these sites, guide their protection of ecological and commemorative integrity, and to create and promote authentic, meaningful visitor experience opportunities.  He will also lead the Field Unit business plan, and participate on various local, regional and national committees.

Mr. Thomas is an avid skier, hiker, and fly fisherman. He developed a passion for the outdoors early in life, which has allowed him to experience some of Canada’s most spectacular and varied protected landscapes.  He looks forward to meeting and working with his new neighbours in Waterton Lakes National Park and Bar U Ranch National Historic Site.
