Freezing rain warning issued

Update: This weather alert has now passed.

Updated at 10:30 am MST Wednesday, November 21, 2012

Patchy freezing rain is expected early this afternoon.

A low pressure system is developing in Montana bringing freezing rain to the Cypress Hills early this afternoon. Patchy freezing rain remains possible near the international border early this afternoon before precipitation pushes north into colder air and changes to snow. Heavy snow will spread into Southern Alberta this afternoon. This band will set up and intensify along a line from Banff to Medicine Hat. 10 to 15 centimetres of snow can be expected by Thursday morning.

The weather system will track slightly further south than originally forecast. As a result snowfall amounts in Red Deer have been decreased to 5 cm and a warning for that area is no longer in effect.

Please drive with caution. AMA reports Highway 3, Highway 22, and Highway 6 are in poor condition in the greater Pincher Creek area.
