Pincher Creek's Senior Huskies hockey team is still finding that first win to be elusive after losing 6-3 in an away game against the Fort Macleod Mustangs on Saturday evening, November 24. It was a fast paced hard hitting game, with a lot of back and forth action.

The Mustangs were ahead 2-0 in the first period after a goal from T. Koyata assisted by Dan Fuller and another by Greg Schimanski assisted by Lander Marr.  They made it 3-0 after an unassisted goal by Schimanski with 5:22 remaining in the second.  At the 4:04 mark in the second the Huskies finally got on the scoreboard after a goal by Kevin Olson, assisted by Shawn Robertson.  With only 34.9 seconds left in the second period Huskies Hayden Shackel scored, assisted by Mason Bond bringing it to 3-2.  In the third, Mustangs Tyce Gallamore scored unassisted at the 15:13 mark, a goal answered by Kevin Olson at the 11:35 mark.  Olson was assisted by Tony Radvak and Sean Stuckey.  With 6:39 left in the period Gallamore scored again for the Mustangs, this time assisted by Cole Matson.  Gallamore is currently the RHL's "Streak" leader with 5 goals in 4 games.  Then with only 52.9 seconds left in the game Mustangs Colby Charteris scored, assisted by Taylor Bilodeau and and Donahue Justin.  At the final buzzer it was 6-3 for the Fort Macleod Mustangs.

The Huskies are in last place, having lost all 6 of their regular season games so far.  The Mustangs are just above them in third place in the rankings, with 3 wins and 4 losses.

The diminished size of the RHL (down to 4 teams this season) has resulted in stronger teams and more competitive action, making for more compelling games.  It also means we will see the same teams playing each other with a much greater frequency, which has added an interesting dynamic to the way the games play out.  It's not an ideal situation, but it might just be the saving grace for the league as it rebuilds from a more solid base of participants.

The Senior Huskies will be back at home at the MCC arena in Pincher Creek on Saturday evening, December 1, when they will play the Lomond Lakers, starting at 8:00 pm.

The Lakers are THE team to beat at this point, as they are presently at the top of the standings with 5 wins and 1 loss so far this season.  They also have 4 out of the top 5 scorers their goalie Danny Wilk is tops in the league at the moment. Taylor Elliott of the Huskies is in second place on the "Streak" stats after 4 goals and 5 assists in 4 games.

The Ranchland Hockey League will be holding Hockey Day in the RHL in February, 2013 with Nanton and Pincher Creek hosting the annual event.

According to RHL Commissioner Jason Hueppelsheuser on their website "the league has been contacted by Taber about putting in a team for the 2013-2014 season, pending approval".
