Pincher Creek's Novice "B" Chinooks hosted two Coaldale Cobras novice teams last weekend, losing to the "A" Cobras and winning against the "B" Cobras.

Chinooks vs Cobras 1

On Saturday November 16 the Novice Chinooks hosted Coaldale's "A" Cobras at the Memorial Community Centre (MCC) arena in Pincher Creek.  There was an obvious disparity between the two teams, the "A" Cobras being on average an older and more experienced team than our "B" Chinooks.

The Cobras dominated the game throughout, scoring 4 unanswered goals in the first period, and three more in the second.  Chinooks #28 Mayz Vance was the firs one to put the Chinooks on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal in the third period.  Vance went on to assist #13 Jaydon Draper, who scored twice in the third period.  Draper's second goal was a dramatic one, going in with just 2.4 seconds left on the clock.  The Cobras 1 team won the game 12-3.

Chinooks vs Cobras 2

The next day, Sunday November 17, saw the Chinooks hosting Coaldale's 'B" Cobras for a much more evenly matched, low penalty high scoring game.  Lots of breakaways, much stronger efforts by the Chinooks, who seemed to have benefited from their loss the day before.  They were much more assertive, passing was much improved, as was strategy and knowing their positions.  The Chinooks were ahead 6-4 at the end of the first period, with a lot of help from goalie #3 Eric Radvak, who was kept hopping throughout the game.

The Chinooks maintained a winning edge throughout most of the second period, and were ahead 8-7 at the end of the second period.  Cobras #3 Max Davis tied it 8-8 with a big breakaway play and the Cobras' tough D helped put them ahead 8-10 at one point.

Chinooks #28 Mayz Vance tied it up 10-10 and then brought it to 11-10 in their favour with two great plays, both unassisted.  Shortly after that a big play by Chinooks Connor Stuckey was aimed right at the goal when it was stymied by the whistle.  Cobras #11 Schae VanBuuren tied it up 11-11 with an unassisted goal with only 5:04 left in the game.

Chinooks #2 Lane Conley put his team in the lead again, 12-11, with an unassisted goal at 3:45 remaining, his second goal of the game.

With only 18.2 seconds remaining Chinooks #12 Jaydon Draper sealed the deal with an unassisted goal.

Final score Chinooks 13, Cobras 11

Top scorers for the Cobras were #3 Max Davis with a hat trick + 1, #8 Noah Olinek with two goals and an assist, and #6 Kobe Fujita (I remember this excellent player from last season) with a hat trick and an assist.

Chinooks #28 Mayz Vance was incredible out there, earning herself a hat trick + 1 from four unassisted goals.  She also got 3 of 4 Chinooks assists.

A good game for #12 Jaydon Draper too, who earned a hat trick.  So did #4 Drew Stuckey, always a fun player to watch.

Also scoring for the Chinooks were #21 Aidan Potts, and #2 Lane Conley with two goals.  #11 Dax Vance picked up an assist.
