Foothills 4-H Beef club report March, 2014

I am Bruce Kirby, club reporter for the Foothills 4-H club. This year we have 12 members and our general leaders are David DeCock and Kathy Welsch. Our project leaders for steer project are Stacey Stauffer and Bryan Mackenzie. and for heifer project they are Jim Welsch and Donalee Smith.

We held are club communications night on February 11, 2014. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this night possible. The judges and timers were Wendy Svab, Wendy Desjarlais, Lindsey Paterson, Phil Burpee, Judy Bonertz, Brian Hammond and Darryll and Debbie Crowshoe. Laura Welsch was the MC and did a great job.

The results for Junior Speeches were: 3rd place Justin Schoening “4-H speech topics”, 2nd place Erica Mackenzie “My favorite star” and first place Ellie Stauffer “My favorite chair”. Intermediate Speeches: 3rd place Bruce Kirby “RoughRiders” 2nd place Sarah Kirby “Clueless criminals” and first place Tom Welsch “Wacky Alberta laws”.

The results for Intermediate Presentations were: 2nd place Stuart Lewis “Nothing runs like a Deer” and first place Deloy Mackenzie “Haystacks”.

The results for Senior Speeches were: 3rd place Tannis Bruder “Manipulation”, 2nd place Merrick Stauffer “Making the best better” and first place Kyla Lewis “The gift of life”.

Congratulations everybody. Sarah, Ellie, Erica, Merrick and Kyla moved onto District Communications where in Juniors Ellie placed first and Erica third . In Intermediate, Sarah placed third and in Senior, Kyla placed second and Merrick placed first.

Congratulations to Ellie Stauffer who went to Regional’s in Medicine Hat and won first place with her speech “My Favorite Chair”.

We had a great time at our buyers appreciation supper held on March 3, and we look forward to our clipping and grooming workshop in April and achievement day which will be held on Monday May 26, 2014 at the Horseshoe Pavillion.
